Coronavirus is no match for the speech and debate team. After a harrowing digital tournament held by Bandera on December 12, Medina Valley won second place overall. Multiple members advanced to finals.

Senior Janelle De Jesus, who competes in the poetry interpretation event, nabbed 5th place in finals. Crediting coaches Dustin Hurley and Tessa Gregory for her success, De Jesus plans to maintain her “winning streak” so she can strongly finish out her last season on the team.

“It was our best tournament of the year so far,” Hurley said. He feels that the team is doing well and strives to proceed to state UIL.

On a side note, junior and notorious speaker  Aya Kasim claimed first place in the district-wide American Legion Oratorical Contest during her own free time;

Kasim will advance to the division level of the contest and will represent Medina Valley on January 23 at the Washington County Courthouse in Brenham, Texas.

The Panthers are excited and determined to conquer upcoming tournaments.

Tournaments are virtual.
