On Saturday, December 8 the Speech and Debate team traveled to Karnes city for a UIL tournament. With some of the most challenging competition the Panthers have faced this season, the competition helped to prepare for the district tournaments. Senior Miranda Mayfield placed fourth in poetry and sophomore Sara Beth Beasley placed first in Lincoln-Douglas debate and fifth in extemp persuasive speaking.
“[Debate] makes me understand and relate more to what people are going through because I get to witness a multitude of categories,” senior Miranda Mayfield said.
“I learn a lot,” sophomore Sara Beth Beasley said. “ [It makes me] more prepared for jobs and interviews.”
Speech and Debate host their next UIL tournament January 12 and competes next on January 19 at La Vernia.
