Last Saturday, on October 11,  Medina Valley students participated in yet another FFA competition. They competed in Homesite Evaluation, Land Judging, and Plant ID events to, in the end, successfully qualify for State.

FFA teams started practicing weeks before this crucial event. Every morning, they would shoot slope, work with textures, and study.

The competition was held at Area VII Fall CDEs. Medina Valley FFA competed against 11 to 15 schools per event to finally rank top 10 in each.

Event                               Score                Rank

Homesite-                     1,051                   3

Land-                               620                     5

Plant ID-                        319                      7

“I’m super excited. This is my third year qualifying for state,” junior Victoria Juarez said. “I hope we can push past State and go to Nationals”.

Preparation for state will begin in January 2019. FFA students will try to hone and grow their skills with time and practice.

Another great accomplishment made on October 11 was by senior Homesite participant Mathew Sapp. Ranking 4th out of all individual Homesite scores, Sapp received a $1,000 scholarship from The Henderson-Wessendorff Foundation.

“I woke up that morning thinking it would be cool to win a scholarship so I aimed for it,” Sapp said. “Yeah, it felt pretty good winning”.

Congratulations Mathew Sapp and FFA; we wish you good luck on the thrilling times ahead.
